Matthew De Angelis launches his independent campaign for the District of Sydenham.
SYDENHAM: Matthew De Angelis today launched his independent campaign for the District of Sydenham at the 2026 Victorian State Election under the banner of Competent Disruption, putting published research, policy proposals and community project development before voters for scrutiny.
His published Growth // Revenue // Return report records about $130.4 million in 2024-25 land transfer duty across five postcodes. These extend beyond the electorate, so this is not a Sydenham total. The proposed District Growth Ledger would track funding, commitments, delivery and ongoing costs, naming sources and those responsible.
“Show, don’t tell. Campaign with contributions and work, not corflutes and slogans. Prove you can fill the seat by doing the work, invited or not. No blind faith required,” De Angelis said.
His policy work includes a submission to the Attorney-General’s Department on the exposure draft of the Privacy Amendment (Personal Data Protection) Bill 2026, alongside threat intelligence dossiers and a strategy aimed at disrupting illegal offshore gambling operations.
Three projects are in development: SCREW OFF, crime intervention from an unlikely source; SPOTLIGHT, local capability and talent clustering; and LOCAL LENNY, a multichannel concept for discreet, humane field research into reporting gaps. It examines what people experience, what gets missed and where systems fail to respond, turning frontline research into practical pilots and fixes.
The Clean Break. No Hangover. proposal applies four tests to major government contracts: money, capability, data and exit. It examines costs across the life of a deal, the expertise government retains, control of information and whether Victoria can replace a supplier without breaking the service.
“One MP doesn’t pour the concrete. But an MP can read the contract, follow the payment, question the department and keep the answer public,” De Angelis said. “They can also bring practical projects into legislative or departmental pathways and work with whoever can help deliver them.”
“I’ll support good politics of every colour when it delivers for our patch of grass. Put my commitments under the same scrutiny. I don’t get a separate marking scheme.”
“INEVITABLE means the West already has the people and capability to build its own future. Publish the work, let people test it and give them a way to take part. If the work doesn’t hold up, don’t vote for it. If it does, why not this way?”
